The Good Samaritans

Since Lola awoke this morning, she had a nasty little attitude. She wasn’t listening and generally speaking, just wasn’t behaving. I cut her some slack as her tooth has been bothering her, and nobody is happy and chipper when they are in pain. I figured we would head out for a girl’s day, despite her moodiness. As is usually the case, Lola and I were headed to Lincoln Road. We planned to do a little shopping, grab a bite to eat and pick up lightbulbs and paper towels. Easy enough, right? WRONG! The Pointed Nail Trend

I have been a nail “freak” of sorts for as long as I can remember. At the ripe age of six I would stock up on Lee press-on nails, often sporting three or four nails hanging off and stuck to my clothes. By the age of thirteen, you could find me in the nail salon acquiring a full set of acrylic nails and bi weekly fill ins. It took me a whle, but by 25, my tastes settled a bit and I became accustomed to weekly manicures, just plain and simple manicures. Throughout my lifetime of nail experimentation, I can easily say I have tried just about everything, that is except pointed nails. Continue reading

A Bittersweet Christmas for America

Christmas. It’s a time of joy, happiness, and bliss. All across the country families are gathering, hugging their children tight, laughing together, decorating trees, making cookies and enjoying the holiday. However, this Christmas will be bittersweet after losing so many beautiful young lives recently. This Christmas just doesn’t seem to be as happy and bright as years past. Since the incomprehensible Sandy Hook massacre on December 14, 2012, many hearts including my own are weighing heavy this holiday season. Continue reading

Top 10 Toys of 2012, From A Kid’s Perspective

My husband and I are guilty of spoiling our only child, Lola.  We are also well aware that that we have created a bit of a “monster”.  Lola drinks Starbucks Chai, her favorite food is Sushi, she gets mani/pedis with Mom and the occasional blow out.  So this year when she asked for an iPad for Christmas, I suppose we shouldn’t have been too shocked. But, we were!  Obviously, she will not be getting an iPad for Christmas, despite her vocal disappointment. Therefore, knowing that we would have to find presents that would be equally as wonderful as an iPad in Lola’s eyes was not going to be an easy feat.  In pursuit of a few very special gifts, I have taken the opportunity to research, review and speak with many children.  So if you are looking for the perfect present for your child this Christmas, I have compiled a list of the top 10 requested toys, from a child’s perspective. May God Bless Newtown, Connecticut

I can’t begin to express the heartache and sadness I feel for the significant loss of twenty six innocent lives, mostly young children that were taken away from their families and this world in such a sick and senseless manner in Newtown, Connecticut yesterday. Please pray for the twenty innocent and beautiful children, six heroic educators and all of the families so tragically affected by this senseless and evil act.

Please hold your children extra close and count your blessings during this trying time.

May God bless them all.

Gifts, Goodies and a Giveaway…Oh My!

During this beautiful time of year, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, teaching my daughter about the true meaning of Christmas and fitting in a little (more like a lot) shopping as well. Many of you have asked me for gift ideas, so over the next week or two, I will be sharing some of my favorite gift ideas. Some for children, some for adults, some for pets and some for yourself (wink wink).  Stay tuned, as everything I suggest, I personally have or use. So prepare yourself for a couple weeks of unique and wonderful gift ideas, and a few giveaways too! Continue reading

Diet At Your Doorstep

I will be completely honest. Since I had Lola five years ago, I have been wanting to shed those few extra pounds I just can’t seem to lose. As a woman who generally doesn’t cook, our dinners have turned into Mac-n-Cheese, Pizza or take out for Chris and Lola, and I usually pop in a Lean Cuisine or pick up Sushi. I can’t even begin to count the times that I have started a diet, only to fail a week later and gorge myself with healthy but a great deal of food, or should I say Starbucks. Continue reading

PAWW, A Dog Lover’s Dream

G.E.N.I.U.S.  Genius is the first word that comes to my mind when thinking of PAWW.  Every dog lover needs a little bit of PAWW in their life, and now. PAWW’s products are absolutely brilliant and designed for ease and convenience.  I am lucky enough to have the PAWW Pick Pocket Leash, and it has become my new best friend.  The Pick Pocket Leash is outfitted with an integrated dog “poopy bag” holder, a storage pocket for your valuables, i.e.; keys, money and a webbing loop so you can clip a light or carabiner.  The leash is lightweight however incredibly strong, and it’s been said that once you have the Pick Pocket Leash, you may never need to purchase another leash again. DIY Christmas Decorations

Christmas is in the air, trees are being decorated, children are writing their letters to Santa and crazy shoppers (including myself) are racing through the stores like chickens with their heads cut off. Do you know what this means? Its officially time for me to break out my glue gun and pretend to be Martha Stewart for a few weeks. Each and every Christmas, I head to the craft store and gather crafting goods, having every intention of creating a breathtaking Christmas decor.  Prior to my trip to the craft store, I spend a couple of weeks stalking the Holiday displays at Pottery Barn and searching the internet for crafting inspiration. Continue reading

Bark-N-Bag…Soho’s Best Accessory

Soho.  She is my furry child, and a very special dog. Soho is our six year old, spunky, sassy, human acting and sometimes pink Pomeranian. Here in South Beach, Soho has become somewhat of a celebrity of sorts.  As I push her down Lincoln Road in Lola’s stroller, people run up to me and ask if they can snap pictures.  I know that sounds crazy, but for the past six years I have been unable to find a suitable carrier, and have been left with using Lola’s lap or stroller. Continue reading

Support & Shop Small Business Saturday

Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Everybody knows what these two shopping days are. Some love grandiose shopping events, while others despise the craziness. Personally, I am one of the “crazy” shoppers that marks their territory in line at 3:00 am on Black Friday eve, so to secure amazing deals. Last year, I watched as a woman was punched in the face by a man over a television. It was incredibly outrageous to say the least, and clearly is far from what the Holiday Season represents. So this first large Holiday shopping weekend of the year, I have decided to concentrate my shopping efforts on Small Business Saturday and support local businesses that work hard each and every day. Continue reading

Three Days Of Fairy Bubbles, Oh My!

Last Friday evening, I arrived home to find my package from Fairy Bubbles had arrived.  I was incredibly excited and couldn’t wait to try everything in the box. The first good sign was when I picked up the box, I could smell the wonderful aroma resonating from inside. Continue reading

Sugar Puff Dreams…Heaven On Earth

Let’s just say, I love sweets. You can’t really blame me. After all, who doesn’t love sweets? The craving for sweets coupled with the Holiday Season means one thing for my family…MARSHMALLOWS. Continue reading

The “Tea” To My Heart

At a very young age, I became a tea connoisseur of sorts. I remember by Grandmother Who-Who (no that wasn’t her real last name, it was Kubiac, but that’s an entirely different story) making me tea, in an attempt to help me sleep, soothe a sore throat, calm a stomach ache or just warm up and relax. To this day, I associate tea a comforting feeling. Continue reading

The Winter White Trend, Can You Pull It Off?

Despite what ANYONE may say, wearing white after Labor Day is a faux pas. However, winter white is a completely different story and ever so encouraged. Too many times I have flipped through a Saks or Neiman’s catalog only to find a beautiful model beaming up from the page wearing a gorgeous crisp winter white suit or pair of pants. I stare back at the page, turning green with envy. How could I ever pull off such a clean crisp look? My winter whites would be soiled with soy sauce stains, Lola’s fingerprints and dog fur in less than five minutes. Continue reading

Kids…They Love To Embarrass Their Parents

Each and every Sunday, Lola and I take a trip to the nail salon.  I get my weekly manicure or bi weekly manicure/pedicure and Lola gets a polish change on her fingers and toes.  It’s a relaxing time for me, a time to spend with Lola doing something we both enjoy.  We love it!  This week we added an extra outing to our weekly ritual.  B dry blow dry bar recently opened in the heart of South Beach, and I decided to get my mane blown out, so to speak. Continue reading

The Child Care Dilemma

Recently an absolutely horrible tragedy took place in Manhattan, NY. It’s every parent’s worst nightmare, and it pains me to even think or speak about it. A mother of three returned home from a trip to swim class her middle child to find the Nanny had murdered her two other children, age six and two. This disgusting beast who called herself a Nanny also tried killing herself, however was unsuccessful. In light of this tragedy, I feel it is warranted to address the subject of Nannies, Babysitters and Child Care.

2012 Chanel Holiday Collection

Nearly twenty years ago, eighteen to be exact Chanel launched Vamp. Vamp is a brilliant dark burgundy color Chanel developed for both nail polish and lipstick. It’s dark, beautiful and for the time period it was developed, cutting edge. A few months later I was living in Greenwich Village and I noticed it on every girl, lady and older woman I passed. It was on their nails or lips, and as soon as you saw it, you knew it was Vamp. Continue reading
